Designing clarity into a new food business model — so the website sells without over-explaining

Hotplate website

Hotplate is a food-drop platform for chefs, bakers, and small teams running a business out of their kitchen. Chefs and bakers already know the work: announcing a menu, collecting orders, figuring out how much to make.

But Hotplate’s drop model doesn’t fit familiar categories like restaurant software or food delivery. The website needed to show how it brings that work together — making its value clear through a story they could immediately see themselves in.

I built the website’s story around a chef running a drop, so people could see how Hotplate fits into work they already know.

Where I come in

You know how to explain it in a room. The story needs to work when you’re not there.

Your strongest point comes halfway through the deck. The website explains every feature, but leaves people wondering why it matters to them. You keep filling in the gaps on calls because the materials aren’t doing enough of the work.

What I look for

Where people lose the thread.

  • The value comes too late

People work through introductions, features, and background before finding out why they should care.

  • One story for every audience

Investors, buyers, and users arrive with different questions. The same message leaves some of them unanswered.

  • Everything gets equal weight

There’s plenty to say, but no clear order. The point people need to remember competes with everything else.

  • Claims without enough proof

The promises are there. The examples, results, and details that make them believable are harder to find.

  • A different story in every place

Your website, pitch, and sales deck explain the business differently. Each needs its own emphasis, with a shared story underneath.

  • An unclear next step

People understand what you do, but don’t have enough reason to enquire, try the product, or continue the conversation.

Two ways to work together

The right story, shaped for where it needs to work.

The audience and intended outcome guide the work. We can focus on your website, your deck, or bring both together around a shared narrative.

Websites

From narrative to a live website.

I shape the story, design the experience, and develop the website. We work through what different visitors need to understand, how they find it, and what will help them take the next step.

Narrative · Copy · Design · Development · SEO + AEO · Launch

Pitch & sales decks

Build the story around the decision.

I help you work out what the audience needs to see, understand, and believe. Then I shape the sequence and design for the way you’ll use it—in a live conversation or as a deck someone reads on their own.

Narrative · Copy · Slide Design · Data Visualisation · Editable Templates

My process

From what you want to say to what people take away.

Choose your format

01 / Audience + goals

Start with who’s visiting and why.

We identify the audiences the website needs to serve, the questions they bring, and the actions that matter to your business. That gives us a clear basis for the content, structure, and build.

Typical outputs:

  • 01Audience priorities and visitor journeys
  • 02Website goals and key actions
  • 03Review of existing content and performance
  • 04Scope and technical requirements

How I think about the work

Start with the impact we want to create.

A buyer deciding whether to book a call needs different information from an investor weighing an opportunity. I work backwards from those decisions to shape what we say, what we show, and how the experience unfolds.

  1. 01

Give each audience a way in

I get clear on what matters to each group, what they need to understand, and what might hold them back. That guides the message and the route through the content.

  2. 02

Bring the right people into the work

I lead the narrative and design, develop the frontend, and bring in copywriting and development specialists where needed. I stay close to the work through reviews and delivery to make sure the quality holds throughout.

  3. 03

    Put proof where it matters

A result, a product example, or a customer story can answer a question at the right moment. I build that evidence into the story.

Ways to work together

A website, a deck, or both working together.

I take care of the narrative, bring in the expertise the project needs, and carry the work through design and delivery.

Frequently asked questions

A few things you might be wondering.

No. Bring what you have—an existing website, an old deck, product notes, or the explanation you usually give on calls. I help work out what the audience needs to understand and how the story should unfold, then bring in a copywriting specialist to develop the words.

Yes. I can build on your existing identity and collaborate with your copywriter or internal team. We work through the audience, narrative, and design together, with clear responsibilities so everyone knows what they’re contributing.

I work with Framer, Webflow, Next.js, and custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We choose the setup around what your website needs to do, the integrations involved, and how your team wants to manage it. If you already have a preferred stack, we can work through what’s possible with it.

I take the website through design, development, and launch, bringing in specialist developers where needed. SEO and answer engine optimisation (AEO) are also part of the work, from content structure to technical setup.

Yes. They should share a clear story, but each needs to work for its audience and the way it’s used. A website lets people explore for themselves; a deck might support a conversation or be read independently. I shape the structure, emphasis, and detail around those differences.

Yes. We discuss what your team needs to edit before choosing the setup. Websites can include a CMS for regularly updated content, and decks are delivered in an agreed editable format with reusable layouts. I walk your team through how to make updates.

You can book a call or drop me an email with a little about what you’re working on.

You might be preparing for a launch, pitching to investors, or finding that your website takes too much explaining. We can talk through who you’re trying to reach, what you want them to understand, and what you’d like to happen next. You don’t need to have the story figured out before we speak.

The Complexity Gap

You know the product and industry inside out. The people buying or using it bring different levels of knowledge and experience. The work is in making that complexity manageable throughout the product—helping beginners get started, supporting people as their needs grow, and giving experts the depth and control they need.

The Retention Gap

Getting someone to try a product is one thing. Becoming part of their day-to-day workflow is another. That comes down to how well it helps them do their job—how naturally it fits into their work, how much easier it makes important tasks, and whether it gives them a reason to keep using it.

The Growth Gap

The business moves forward, but the experience doesn’t always keep up. The story reflects an earlier stage, the website struggles with new content, and the product feels different depending on where you are. Growth, engineering, business, and design teams spend more time explaining, fixing, and working around the gaps. It gets frustrating for everyone.

She added many of her own feature improvements — ones we couldn't have thought of ourselves.

Disha really exceeded our expectations, especially with her enthusiasm and the amount of work she put into her designs. She also added many of her own feature improvements within time & development constraints, which we couldn't have thought of ourselves.

We are very happy with the final result and will be working with Disha for the rest of our project!
